How can we help?

Understanding Out of Stock and Backorder support

Learn how to manage stock shortages and support backorders effectively

Managing inventory shortages is critical for maintaining smooth operations. The Out of Stock field and Backorder Support features help you address stock issues, ensuring orders are fulfilled promptly as stock becomes available.

Out of Stock

The Out of Stock column dynamically calculates shortages for products in pending orders.

  • View the exact number of units needed to fulfill orders.
  • CSV exports and API integrations now include out-of-stock quantities for better reporting.
💡

Pro Tip: Use this feature to proactively reorder stock and avoid fulfillment delays.

Backorder support

When stock is insufficient to fully ship an order, backorders ensure available stock is reserved until the remaining stock arrives.

Contact support to activate backorder functionality

When the backorder functionality is activated, the current workflow changes. Borderless360 will no longer skip an order and leave it under Out of Stock, but the system will Reserve stock for when the order can be fulfilled.

  • Reserved stock is flagged until the order can be completed.
  • Backorders prevent the system from skipping out-of-stock orders.

For example, consider the following order containing two different products:

  • SKU1 (Quantity: 4) and
  • SKU2 (Quantity: 3).

However, the warehouse’s inventory only has 2 of each product.

In this case, we would reserve two products from each SKU and wait for an additional two products from SKU1 and one product from SKU2 to be added to inventory before fulfilling the order.

Reserved Stock

Borderless360 will show you stock levels using amber-coloured low stock and red-coloured Out of stock tags, respectively. It will also display the quantity of a particular SKU that is reserved to fulfil backorders. This is labelled as Reserved stock.

What this now means is stock will be listed as Reserved until we are able to fully fulfil an order, rather than listed as Out of Stock.
